Governments and university scientists will test about 80,000 migratory birds this year. Last year they tested 6,000 Alaskan birds and found a low-level form of H5N1 in about 10 percent of the bird population. The form they found described to be as deadly, but its mutation into a deadly human-infectious strain is just as strong of a threat.
